Isometric, a UK-based carbon removal registry, has launched its Isometric Standard, which establishes criteria for verifying credits of carbon removals. The standard comprehensively addresses requirements for crediting, retirement, reversals, and buffer pools with a collaboration of 150 expert scientists to increase transparency in the carbon removal industry.
The Isometric Standard applies solely to carbon credits that permanently remove and store CO2 from the atmosphere for more than 1,000 years. It does not include avoidance credits or projects with temporary CO2 storage. The standard comprises of two sections: 1) The Science Platform, which enables CDR suppliers to host and visualize their removal data and protocols, and 2) Isometric’s Registry, which publishes verified carbon removal records.
Founded in 2022, Isometric provides a framework to increase the transparency and efficiency of the carbon removal industry. The company provides science-based data and verifies results for its independent carbon registry.
