44.01, an Omani carbon mineralization startup, has partnered with Aircapture, a direct air capture company, to deploy a direct air capture (DAC) and mineralization project in Oman. The project will take place in late 2024 at a site in Oman's Hajar mountains, where 44.01 has previously done pilots.
In the partnership, Aircapture will provide DAC units, while 44.01 will use its peridotite mineralization technology to convert the captured CO2 into rock. The former aims to initially provide 500 tons of CO2 per year and increase the capacity after pilot testing.
The project would become the world's largest peridotite mineralization project and enable the scaling up of 44.01 and Aircapture's technologies during deployment.
