CarbiCrete, a Canadian developer of low-cost building solutions using CO2, has partnered with Patio Drummond, a Quebec manufacturer of concrete products, to commercially manufacture Carbi-Crete blocks.
The partnership expects to produce CarbiCrete blocks from steel slag instead of cement. The blocks will capture CO2 during the curing process. CarbiCrete intends to support the goal of carbon neutrality in the concrete industry by 2050.
The commercialization was preceded by testing the longevity and durability of the product. As of October 2023, Patio Drummond operates two curing chambers that manufacture 2,400 CarbiCrete cinder blocks daily and expects to expand its capacity by 2x within a year.
