Catalonia's Department of Climate Action, Food, and Rural Agenda and the Institute of Agri-Food Research and Technology (IRTA) have launched Spain's first Center for Innovation in Alternative Proteins (CiPA), with EUR 7 million (~USD 7.4 million) in funding.
CiPA plans to establish itself as the leading hub in Southern Europe for research and innovation. Its primary focus is to develop ingredients, food, and feed substitutes for animal proteins and will cover the entire value chain from the production of raw materials to customer integration.
In addition, CiPA will assist companies in scaling up the production of plant-based and fermentation-derived food products and will research food waste to transform agricultural surplus into food.
