Heura, a Spanish FoodTech startup, has expanded its vegan portfolio with Jamon York style (York ham style) slices. Launched in Spain and France, the product claims to be a clean label (i.e., does not contain chemical additives and is not highly processed).
York ham style slices are made using the patent-pending thermo-mechanical technique and use ingredients such as soy protein isolate, extra virgin olive oil, vegetable concentrates, and natural flavors. Heura claims the slices have a superior nutritional profile to actual ham, with a 65% protein density, and do not pose the same carcinogen risk.
Priced at EUR 2.99 (~USD 3.2) for a 78g pack, the vegan slices are ~280% more expensive than similar-sized pig-based ham sold at retail outlets in Spain.
