IQM computers and VTT developed Finland’s second quantum computer

Partnerships
Geographic expansion

  • Finland-based quantum hardware company IQM Quantum Computers and the VTT Technical Research Center of Finland have developed the country's second quantum computer, a 20-qubit superconducting device. The company developed the first quantum computer, a five-qubit device, in 2021.

  • The partnership, which focuses on the development and scaling up of quantum computers, believes the 20-qubit quantum computer—housed at the VTT premises—is a significant step toward building larger quantum processors and uplifting Finland’s position in the global quantum computing market. The duo also announced plans to upgrade the system to a 50-qubit computer by the end of 2024.
