UK-based air taxi and drone logistics company Skyport has partnered with RigiTech, a drone-based logistics services provider, for a new project in the Yeosu City region in Korea, focused on inter-island drone-based delivery of pharmaceuticals and food.
The project is supported by several organizations, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, the Korea Institute of Aviation Safety Technology (KIAST), and the Yeosu City government.
Through regular flights operated by RigiTech's Eiger drone system, the consortium aims to demonstrate the safety and benefits of drone operations, improve access and connectivity for island residents, and explore the possibility of postal deliveries. The project will also evaluate the viability of scaling the service to more locations in the future.
Analyst QuickTake: Skyports entered the South Korean market in September 2021 in partnership with Kencoa Aerospace, a global aerospace solution supplier and manufacturer, to trial cargo drone deliveries to and within Jeju Island, South Korea. Today’s project will add to its operations in the country.
