Salient Predictions, an ocean- and land-based climate risk analytics provider, has secured a grant of USD 2.9 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The funding is earmarked to provide weather predictions to boost agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers in East Africa.

The grant will be utilized to develop actionable sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) weather predictions by integrating data from ground-based weather stations. Salient expects to deliver decision support tools for farmers to adapt to climate change impacts.

Preceding this grant, Salient was also the recipient of the Small Business Innovation Research Grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in September 2023 .
