Dronamics, a UK- and Bulgaria-based middle-mile cargo drone manufacturer, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Emirates Post Group (EPG), the official postal operator of UAE, to explore the use of cargo drones in the UAE.
Under the partnership, EPG will trial Dronamics' cargo drone service for same-day middle-mile and long-range deliveries. The aim is to develop a cargo drone delivery network in the UAE and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
The companies plan to conduct proof-of-concept flights in 2024. Upon successful pilots, EPG plans to integrate the technology used in the partnership into its logistics network.
Analyst QuickTake: This is not the first time a postal service explored the use of drones for delivery purposes. In fact, Royal Mail has conducted drone-based deliveries in Scotland with Skyports, while Swizz Post partnered with Matternet for drone-based deliveries in Switzerland.
