OpenAI has officially launched its internet browsing feature on ChatGPT, allowing users to browse the web in real-time using Bing. It is available for Plus and Enterprise members.
OpenAI aims to transform ChatGPT into a multimedia generative search engine, enabling users to interact with ChatGPT through voice, visuals, and text. The integration of web search and text-to-image generation expands the capabilities of ChatGPT, making it a versatile and interactive AI tool.
Analyst QuickTake: OpenAI initially introduced web browsing to ChatGPT in March, which came with potential risks due to the unfiltered nature of the live web. In May, it started offering web search using Bing, later expanding access to the ChatGPT mobile app in June. However, it was temporarily withdrawn after issues with displaying paywalled content. OpenAI relaunched the "Browse with Bing" feature in late September with improvements to follow content owners' instructions, ensuring adherence to Robots.txt files like traditional web crawlers.
