UK-based UNDO, a carbon removal startup that uses enhanced rock weathering technology, has partnered with Canadian Wollastonite (CW), an Ontario-based mining company, for a rock weathering carbon removal project.
Through the partnership, CW expects to spread wollastonite minerals on agricultural land to capture carbon for permanent CO2 credits and improve soil quality. The company estimates that 1 metric ton of carbon can be captured by 1.6 tons of crushed wollastonite.
UNDO will support the partnership through its technical expertise in measuring and verifying the captured CO2. The partners intend to jointly supply crushed wollastonite to farmers at a significant discount.
UNDO has carried out life cycle operations with Canadian Wollastonite that have achieved over 90% carbon efficiency. The partnership expects to emit less than 10 tons of carbon in mining to capture 100 tons of carbon with wollastonite.
