Greenly, a French carbon management startup, has launched its Climate Rating System, a points and medal system that assesses companies' carbon footprint reduction progress. The rating system ranges from E to A+ with Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum medals for companies with a rating above C. The system intends to improve the transparency in ESG ratings to guide consumers and investors.
The climate rating system assesses company performance in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, climate strategy, and environmental initiatives to generate a Climate Score. Greenly allocates points for companies for their Greenhouse Gas reports, Paris Agreement-aligned climate targets, carbon reduction, and offsetting strategies.
The Bronze medal signifies that a company has published an emissions report, calculating its carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, on ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency. The Silver medal recognizes carbon action plans and decarbonization strategies.
Greenly specifically considers certification of decarbonization activities and compliance with SBTi standards for the Gold medal. The Platinum medal would be awarded to companies with environmentally responsible products compared to market standards.
