Gucci debuts its Horsebit handbags crafted from plant-based leather developed in-house

Product updates

  • Gucci has launched a vegan version of its Horsebit 1955 bag made from plant-based leather material called Demetra, which was developed by Gucci in-house.

  • Demetra is the product of comprehensive two-year R&D efforts by Gucci's internal technicians and artisans. It has been produced at an Italian Gucci factory since 2021. The material is made using sustainable inputs such as responsibly sourced viscose, wood pulp, and non-GMO corn-based plastic.

  • The bag, which is made from 75% plant-derived raw materials, will come in two designs and is expected to be available for purchase both online and at physical Gucci retail outlets soon.
