Quantum computing companies Multiverse Computing and Oxford Quantum Circuits (OQC), together with global intelligence company Moody's Analytics, have secured around GBP 100,000 funding from Innovate UK for a joint project on quantum-assisted flood modeling. The UK Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will be the first customer to test the large-scale flood prediction models.
Multiverse Computing, being the lead contractor of the project, will be involved in software and algorithm development, while OQC will provide the quantum hardware. Meanwhile, Moody's Analytics will contribute industry expertise. The project will last up to 15 months, with Phase 1 ending in November 2023.
The project aims to improve flood risk assessment, flood prediction, and management using a Quantum Physics-Informed Neural Network algorithm, with the expectation of getting a better understanding of flood risk landscapes across geographies and times of the year.
