Factorial Energy, a solid-state battery developer, has opened its new battery manufacturing unit in Methuen, Massachusetts. The facility, which involved an investment of USD 50 million, will be instrumental in scaling the production of the company's solid-state batteries for EVs.
The facility will accommodate a production capacity of up to 200 MWh and stands to be the largest solid-state battery assembly line in the US. It also remains close to the company’s R&D facility and corporate headquarters.
Analyst QuickTake: The new factory opening follows Factorial announcing earlier this month that A-samples of its 100+ Ah Factorial Electrolyte System Technology solid-state battery cells have been shipped to automotive partners such as Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai Motor Group, and Stellantis for testing. Factorial also received the United Nations’ 38.3 safety certification for its large-format automotive solid-state batteries in May 2023 . The company was the first Li-metal solid-state battery maker to receive certification for 100+Amp-Hour (Ah) cells. The certification enables Factorial to ship its 100+Ah cells globally to customers and partners.
