Puro.earth, a Finnish startup offering a B2B carbon trading marketplace and registry for carbon removal credits, has partnered with Red Trail Energy, a bioethanol plant operator, to certify the latter's CO2 removal credits through the Puro.earth standard. Puro.earth will assess Red Trail's project via its Geologically Stored Carbon methodology.
The partnership aims to ensure relevant environmental and carbon accounting criteria are satisfied by Red Trail Energy from its bioethanol CO2 capture and storage. The company has captured ~180,000 metric tons of CO2 from the fermentation process in 2022.
Through the partnership, Red Trail Energy would be the first and largest production facility in the US to offer third-party verified credits to the voluntary carbon market.
