VR game development studio MyDearest raises USD 7.8 million in funding

Funding

  • Japan-based VR game development studio MyDearest raised USD 7.8 million in a funding round led by SBI Investment Co., with participation from DG Daiwa Ventures Inc. and NetEase Games, alongside other investors. The round brings the company's total funding to USD 16.1 million.

  • The funds will be utilized to expand MyDearest's original intellectual properties and publishing business for VR headsets like Meta Quest and PS VR 2.

  • MyDearest is known for its Japanese-style adventure games influenced by manga, such as Tokyo Chronos (2019), Altdeus: Beyond Chronos (2020), and Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate (2022). The studio plans to launch its first multiplayer shooter game, Brazen Blaze, in 2024, marking a significant shift from the traditional adventure game genre it specializes in.

  • Analyst QuickTake: VR game development studios have seen an uptick in investor interest in recent times. The funding round follows AstroBeam’s USD 3 million seed funding round earlier in November 2023 to develop a VR multiplayer game.
