Archer Aviation, a California-based eVTOL company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with InterGlobe Enterprises, an Indian hospitality conglomerate, to establish an urban air taxi service in India.
The two companies intend to work with select in-country business partners to operate Archer’s aircraft, finance and build vertiport infrastructure, and train pilots and other personnel. Furthermore, the partnership proposes to procure up to 200 Midnight aircraft, to cover routes such as the 27-kilometer journey from Delhi's Connaught Place to Gurugram, which takes an hour by car but takes approximately seven minutes when using Archer’s aircraft.
Beyond passenger service, the electric aircraft could serve diverse purposes including cargo transport, emergency medical services, and charter flights. These initiatives are pending regulatory approval.
Analyst QuickTake: In October 2023 , Archer also partnered with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office to establish its first international headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Abu Dhabi. The company plans to commence air taxi operations in the country in 2026 with the aim of bringing electric air taxis to the UAE.
