ZeroAvia, a hydrogen-based aviation solutions developer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japan Airlines and JAL Engineering to explore the development of hydrogen-electric engines for flight operations on regional routes in Japan.
As such, Japan Airlines and ZeroAvia will collectively assess the operational parameters for retrofitting hydrogen-electric aircraft for existing and prospective routes and also define pathways for regulation, retrofit operations, hydrogen fuel infrastructure, and engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
Analyst QuickTake: Recently in October 2023 , ZeroAvia also partnered with Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance, a maintenance and repair organization, to carry out a study on the technical training needs and processes for technicians and mechanics tasked with retrofitting and maintaining aircraft fleets equipped with hydrogen-electric propulsion.
