Cumberland Additive, a company specializing in additive manufacturing for various sectors, has acquired the Stratasys Direct Manufacturing Metals operation in Texas for an undisclosed sum.
Following this acquisition, Cumberland plans to maintain the existing Stratasys Metals team under its banner and continue operations at the same location. This strategic acquisition allows Cumberland to offer customers increased metal production capacity using powder bed fusion laser technology and diversified materials.
It also enables Cumberland to double its operations while allowing Stratasys to focus on its core business.
Analyst QuickTake: This news comes several weeks after Stratasys terminated a merger agreement with Desktop Metal after it rejected offers from 3D Systems and Nano Dimension previously to explore strategic alternatives. The company appears to be taking a different approach to operations by streamlining and focusing on core operations.
