Carbyon, a Netherlands-based direct air capture (DAC) company, has demonstrated the effectiveness of its fast-swing carbon capture process. The process optimizes energy consumption to less than 2,500 kWh/ton and reduces traditional capital costs in DAC technology. The company aims to capture CO2 at a cost rate below USD 100 per ton.
Carbyon's technology utilizes a special carbon capture material that absorbs CO2 within minutes, compared to typical materials that require hours to achieve the same outcome. A kilogram of its material captures around five tons of CO2 annually. The company also diminished water uptake during the process.
In addition, Carbyon claims its compact DAC machine captures a CO2 ton at USD 50.
