Fervo Energy breaks ground on geothermal power plant in Utah

Geographic expansion

  • Fervo Energy, a next-generation geothermal energy startup, has begun construction of its planned 400 MW geothermal power plant in Beaver County, Utah. The company aims to reach the full capacity of electricity generation by 2028.

  • The plant operates by drilling deep into the earth's core, more than a mile deep, to reach subterranean heat sources. Fervo commenced drilling operations in Beaver County in July 2023 and is currently working on the third of what will be 100 geothermal wells drilled on public lands for the Utah power plant.

  • Known as the “Cape Station project,” this could be the world’s largest geothermal facility to use next-generation technologies.
