Geotab, a company specializing in connected transportation solutions, has gained exemption for its aftermarket solutions from the emissions anti-tampering regulations laid out by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Its product, the Go Telematics Kit, is now the only CARB-compliant, continuously connected fleet management solution in the market.
Within California’s regulatory framework, CARB prohibits the marketing, installation, or sale of any component that alters the original design or performance of emissions control systems. This includes the on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems utilized by telematics companies' devices to gather vehicle data. Non-compliance with this regulation could result in potential fines of up to USD 42,000 per vehicle.
