Vital Meat partners with Biowest to scale production of cultivated chicken

Partnerships

  • Vital Meat, a French cultivated meat company, has partnered with Biowest, a European producer of animal-sourced cell culture media, to scale up production of cell-cultured chicken.

  • Biowest has tailored a serum-free medium for Vital Meat's cultured chicken platform, enabling the startup to perform successful pilot production in 250 l bioreactors. According to the company, this milestone will allow it to scale its cultivated chicken ingredient production to industrial levels.

  • Vital Meat, founded in 2018, claims to be the first French cell-cultured meat startup. The company is currently developing a chicken ingredient specifically designed for next-generation hybrid alternatives and will venture into other meat types later. Further, it plans to enter the European market following regulatory approval and is also considering entry into the Singaporean and US markets.
