Algaeing, an Israeli startup making bio-based fabrics and dyes, has partnered with Indian cellulose fiber manufacturer Birla Cellulose to develop sustainable, algae-based fiber for the textile industry.
This fiber is expected to eliminate the need for traditional dyeing by providing naturally occurring colors in the algae. Its production is also expected to be toxin-free and carry additional benefits due to the rich nutrients, minerals, antioxidants, and botanical properties present in algae.
Analyst QuickTake : This marks the company’s first international partnership and will be a meaningful step to expand the market for the company’s products globally, as Birla Cellulose is India’s largest cellulose fiber manufacturer. In 2020, Algaeing partnered with Israel-based non-woven fabric manufacturer Avgol to implement its technology in Avgol’s hygiene and medical/PPE offerings.
