Mistral AI, an open-source developer of foundation models, has raised EUR 385 million (~USD 415 million) in Series A funding led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Salesforce, BNP Paribas, CMA-CGM, General Catalyst, Elad Gil, and Conviction. Last week, the company reported that it was planning to raise EUR 450 million (~USD 487 million) in funding through this funding round.
The company plans to use the funding to further develop its AI technology and open-source software.
Mistral AI intends to profit from its core models; hence, it is launching the developer platform in beta, followed by a public release in early 2024. Through this, other firms can access Mistral AI's models via paid APIs.
