UK-based quantum software company Riverlane and Rolls-Royce have initiated a project called Quantum Accelerator for Materials Design (QuaMaD) to develop tools that simulate complex materials on quantum computers.
The collaboration will be funded by Innovate UK, in line with the UK National Quantum Strategy objectives. Plans are ongoing to involve other industry leaders through the UK-based National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC).
The project will leverage Riverlane's Quantum Error Correction Stack technology to reduce the number of qubits required for the simulations, potentially tackling major challenges in the materials industry.
