Finnish biotech startup eniferBIO has secured a EUR 12 million (~USD 13.2 million) grant from the NextGenerationEU program run by the European Union.
The grant will go toward building its mycoprotein factory in the Uusimaa region, capable of producing three million kilograms of its signature protein ingredient, PEKILO, annually. Construction will cost an estimated EUR 30 million (~USD 33 million), with plant operations set to begin by 2026.
eniferBIO, founded in 2019, produces the PEKILO mycoprotein ingredient from fungal fermentation. This color and taste-neutral powder claims to contain 70% protein and can be used in alternative meat, aquaculture feed, and pet food applications.
