Optera, a carbon management software company, has partnered with the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) to create an emissions reporting platform for products in the retail industry. The company aims to improve the consistency of retailers' GHG emissions calculations.
The partners expect to launch the Direct-Use Product Emissions Database (DPED) to track Scope 3, Category 11 (Use of Sold Products) emissions in March 2024. Initially, the tool will report emissions at the product category level and expand into individual product levels in the future.
Optera also received support from industry peers and retail companies, such as Lowe’s and Target, to develop the tool.
