Ocean Power Technologies receives funding from Naval Postgraduate School for PowerBuoy deployment

Funding

  • Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a Nasdaq-listed company developing ocean wave energy, has received an undisclosed amount of funding from California's Naval Postgraduate School (NPS).

  • The company intends to use the funds for a year-long project to deploy OPT's PowerBuoy integrated with AT&T 5G technology in Monterey Bay.

  • This is the first time OPT has incorporated AT&T cellular technology into its ocean buoys and aims to demonstrate AT&T’s surveillance and communications capacities in a maritime environment.

  • Analyst QuickTake: This marks the second time in 2024 OPT has received funding. The first took place in January 2024 , when the company received a USD 1.2 million grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority 2023 Technology Business Tax Certificate Transfer Program to accelerate its profitability through the funding.
