Vivici, a Dutch company specializing in alternative dairy proteins, has launched its animal-free whey protein produced through precision fermentation for commercial availability. This product is a beta-lactoglobulin isolate and has received GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status in the US.
According to Vivici, its precision-fermented whey protein contains all the necessary amino acids for the human body, including high volumes of leucine and branched-chain amino acids. Additionally, it is free from lactose, cholesterol, hormones, and antibiotics and can be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream.
Analyst QuickTake: In October 2023 , the company scaled its production platform, enabling the commercial release of its flagship whey protein according to the original timeline. Further, it partnered with Ginkgo Bioworks to secure optimized strains for precision-fermented dairy protein production.
