Northvolt, a European EV battery and energy storage producer, has secured USD 5 billion to expand its Northvolt Ett battery factory in northern Sweden, reportedly the largest green loan raised in Europe to date. The new debt, which includes refinancing the USD 1.6 billion debt package raised in 2020, is provided by 23 commercial banks, the European Investment Bank, and the Nordic Investment Bank.
The financing would support the expansion of Northvolt Ett's cathode production and cell manufacturing, as well as the expansion of the adjacent recycling plant, Revolt Ett, which is nearing completion of commissioning and processing its first materials.
