Unilever-owned company Breyers has partnered with Perfect Day, an alternative dairy company, to unveil a new lactose and cholesterol-free ice cream product.
Unilever utilizes Perfect Day's precision-fermented whey protein to develop Breyers Lactose-Free Chocolate, making it the first multinational ice cream brand to use this animal-free whey protein in consumer products.
Analyst QuickTake: Perfect Day uses microflora (microorganisms such as bacteria, yeast, and fungi) to create the protein blocks of milk-casein and whey via fermentation. While this partnership marks its first collaboration with an international ice cream brand, the startup has partnered with global companies like ADM and Nestlé to develop animal-free milk products using its whey alternative.
