The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI), MarraBio, and Aelius Biotech have received a grant worth nearly GBP 500,000 (~USD 633,450) from Innovate UK for a cultivated meat project.
The grant will be used to develop a cost-effective and low-emission cultivated meat production method. This project aims to replace expensive reagents used currently with engineered protein materials, slated for completion by December 2024.
Analyst QuickTake: While nations like France and Italy have banned cultivated meat production, the UK has been pushing to expedite its cultivated meat timelines with initiatives like the one above and CARMA . Cultivated meat offers a humane substitute for animal meats but is more expensive than conventional meat production. This project could solve this issue by developing alternative bacterial protein polymers that help the cell proliferation process at a lower cost.
