Rigetti and Riverlane join DOE project to explore quantum-supercomputer integration

Partnerships

  • California-based full-stack quantum computing company Rigetti Computing and UK-based quantum software company Riverlane have joined a project led by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), a part of the US Department of Energy (DOE), to explore the possibility of integrating a quantum computer and high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

  • As part of the project, the companies will develop the world’s first benchmarking suite, "QStone," to measure the performance of high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum computing systems. They will synergize using ORNL’s supercomputer, Summit, along with elements from Riverlane and Rigetti’s quantum technology.

  • The collaboration will help to identify early difficulties in merging the two technologies and provide a better understanding of the scalability and real-world applicability of quantum computing.
