Walmart closes self-checkout lanes in Los Angeles

Partnerships

  • Walmart has reportedly shut down self-checkout lanes at its West Hills, Los Angeles, store.

  • Specific reasons for the closure are yet to be disclosed by Walmart.

  • The closure closely follows the retailer’s recent removal of self-checkout lanes in New Mexico locations with plans of moving toward a self-checkout process where workers have more product touchpoints.

  • Analyst QuickTake : The news reflects a recent trend of retailers reevaluating their self-checkout strategies. Recently, British retailer Booths removed nearly all self-checkout stations as a response to customer feedback. Dollar General announced plans to shift away from self-checkout systems and reassign staff to traditional cashier roles.
