FreeWire launches new EV chargers with bidirectional charging capabilities

  • FreeWire Technologies, a startup offering DC fast-charging infrastructure for EVs, has launched its Boost Power Pro EV charger. It offers several new features, including built-in energy storage for power sharing, blackout charging, site backup power, and grid services.

  • The power-sharing feature interconnects multiple chargers into a large-scale energy storage system, while blackout charging provides uninterrupted EV charging during power outages using the integrated battery. Furthermore, the site backup power feature taps into the energy stored in the integrated battery to provide emergency power during grid failures, and the grid services feature enables site hosts to send energy back to the utility grid during peak demand or critical events.

  • Analyst QuickTake: FreeWire partnered with General Motors in January 2024 to expand ultrafast EV-charging infrastructure for GM Envolve's fleet and commercial clients. As such, GM plans to start offering FreeWire's charging solutions in early 2024.
