Biotech firm Van Heron Labs, which specializes in precision nutrition for cell growth, has raised USD 1.1 million in seed funding led by FoodLabs.
The funding will be used to improve Van Heron's technology platform and commercialize its product offerings and services.
Established in 2020, Van Heron Labs utilizes genomics, bioinformatics, AI, and nanotechnology for cellular nutrition solutions, including basal media, supplements, feeds, and bioreactor additives. Its proprietary media formulation platform claims to enhance cell vitality, growth, and efficiency and cater to segments like cultivated meat and biomaterials.
Analyst QuickTake: Apart from its media formulations platform, the company has also developed Ser-X Technology to help companies transition from using fetal bovine serum (FBS). Using FBS for cell culture has been linked to ethical concerns and contamination risks, which has led to a push to replace FBS with serum-free alternatives. Ven Heron Labs could use the new funding and technology to capitalize on this trend.
