Quantum companies Riverlane and Xanadu and Rolls-Royce have joined together to leverage quantum computing for modeling airflow in jet engines. The project is supported by Innovate UK with GBP 0.4 million (USD 0.5 million), and the National Research Council of Canada with CAD 0.5 million (USD 0.4 million).
The project, dubbed "CATALYST," will create a combined quantum-classical framework enabling a classical computer to instruct quantum computers. The partnership will allow Rolls-Royce to evaluate and implement new quantum algorithms rapidly, condensing long work hours into mere minutes. It will also enable Rolls-Royce to reach its goal of performing a trillion computations, aligning with the UK Government's quantum operation milestone projections for 2035.
