Orbillion Bio secures new funding to scale up production

Funding

  • Orbillion Bio, a California-based cultivated meat producer, has secured new funds, bringing the firm's total capital to USD 15 million. The funding round was co-led by The Venture Collective and At One Ventures, with participation from YCombinator, Metaplanet, and various university endowments, among others.

  • The company will allocate the funding to scale manufacturing capacity, advance its technical platform and cultivated beef product, and progress its regulatory path.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Scaling up to commercial capacity is a major challenge for cultivated meat companies due to high-cost requirements and scarcity of sufficient bioreactor capacity. Recently, Orbillion Bio completed a 200-litre production run of its cultivated meat, marking the largest run conducted by a pre-Series A company in the sector. Further, in December 2022 , the company partnered with Solar Biotech to scale up to 20,000-litre bioreactors capable of producing over 4 million lbs of cultivated beef annually.
