Sakana AI, a provider of foundation models, released three AI models developed using a "model merging" technique, which combines existing AI models to form a new one. Combined with an evolution-inspired approach, this method generates the best-performing models from each generation being selected as the parents for the subsequent generation.
The company is releasing a Japanese large language model (LLM) capable of math reasoning and a Japanese vision language model (VLM).
The three released models are EvoLLM-JP, EvoVLM-JP, and EvoSDXL-JP, two of which are open-sourced and available on platforms like Hugging Face and GitHub.
Analyst QuickTake: Earlier this year, Sakana AI raised USD 30 million in seed funding to expand the team and develop its AI techniques further.
