NIO partners with CATL to develop long-lasting EV batteries

Partnerships

  • NIO, an NYSE-listed Chinese EV manufacturer, has partnered with CATL, a China-based battery manufacturer, to develop long-lasting EV batteries that can last up to 15 years, which is twice the current national warranty standard.

  • The partnership aims to expand battery technology that can maintain 80% of the capacity after 12 years of usage. With CATL's invention of self-repairing Solid Electrolyte Interphase film and lithium supplements, the service life of EV batteries can be extended. 

  • Furthermore, both companies are also working to make battery swap services widely available to minimize the high replacement costs of the battery.
