NIO, an NYSE-listed Chinese EV manufacturer, has partnered with CATL, a China-based battery manufacturer, to develop long-lasting EV batteries that can last up to 15 years, which is twice the current national warranty standard.
The partnership aims to expand battery technology that can maintain 80% of the capacity after 12 years of usage. With CATL's invention of self-repairing Solid Electrolyte Interphase film and lithium supplements, the service life of EV batteries can be extended.
Furthermore, both companies are also working to make battery swap services widely available to minimize the high replacement costs of the battery.
