DroneUp, a drone-based delivery services provider, has launched its proprietary autonomous ecosystem that combines automated ground infrastructure, a suite of software operating systems, and an autonomous drone platform.
The ecosystem consists of “DBX,” a ground infrastructure system that enables autonomous pick-up and delivery of packages. DBX facilitates climate-controlled package management, package returns, and storage and delivery within urban areas and multi-dwelling communities.
DroneUp's suite of software systems provides features such as autonomous flight planning and control that enable a single operator to operate multiple drones, enhanced speed and precision in package pick-up, digitized maps, and advanced flight coordination features.
The new drone platform offers onboard charging, extended service coverage, and a speed of 60 mph. It uses onboard vertical clearance sensing to determine the drone's height above obstacles and is built with a claw-like package grasper that can carry out aerial drops or winch up to 120 ft. The platform also claims low noise emission and a higher weight-carrying capacity than the industry.
DroneUp has rolled out the ecosystem in Virginia Beach and Dallas, Texas, with plans to expand the service in late 2024.
