Wayve to establish new R&D center in Vancouver

Geographic expansion

  • Wayve, a British autonomous-driving tech startup, is establishing a new R&D center in Vancouver, Canada its second facility in North America and third overall, with other offices located in London, UK, and Mountain View, California.

  • Through the expansion, the company aims to extend its reach and improve access to skilled professionals.

  • The choice of Vancouver reflects the city's emerging status as a tech hub, bolstered by its proximity to Seattle and the presence of major tech firms like Microsoft and Amazon. Vancouver's favorable immigration policies and supportive environment for AI and innovation were also key factors in this decision.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Wayve's technology uses AI to autonomously learn driving rules and behaviors instead of being pre-programmed, enhancing its adaptability to new environments and unpredictable situations. The company has trialed the tech in partnership with British grocery retailer Asda and online grocer Ocado.
