OpenAI has announced a strategic partnership and licensing agreement with Financial Times (FT), a news publisher.
The partnership will enhance ChatGPT with attributed content, help improve its models’ usefulness by incorporating FT journalism, and collaborate on developing new AI products and features for FT readers. It will allow ChatGPT users to see select attributed summaries, quotes, and links to FT journalism in response to relevant queries.
Analyst QuickTake: This partnership recognizes the importance of compensating publishers for using their content to enable transparency. Last month, OpenAI formed strategic partnerships with French newspaper Le Monde and Spanish media company Prisa Media to access news content through ChatGPT. OpenAI has also made deals with other news organizations to license content to train AI models, including Axel Springer, Politico, and European publications Bild and Welt and The Associated Press.
