Amazon has partnered with Volvo Trucks to integrate fifty Volvo VNR electric semi-trucks into ocean freight operations, marking Amazon's first electric truck deployment for ocean freight operations.
Amazon plans to deploy the trucks to haul heavy cargo containers and customer packages in Amazon’s first- and middle-mile operations in California. The trucks will be operating in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, with 12 anticipated to be in service by the end of the year. The trucks are expected to cover over 1 million miles each year without releasing any harmful emissions.
Analyst Quick Take: The electric semi-trucks will complement Amazon’s last-mile delivery fleet of over 3,000 Rivian electric vans already operational in the US. Amazon also has partnered with Volvo Trucks to deploy electric heavy-duty trucks for fleet operations in Germany.
