LG Display, a subsidiary of LG Group, announced a micro-OLED display featuring a 4K resolution and 10,000 nit brightness at SID Display Week 2024.
Key features of the new micro-OLED display include 4,000 pixels per inch density, and a color gamut of 97% DCI-P3, surpassing the capabilities of current 3,700 micro-OLED displays used in devices like Apple Vision Pro. It also offers higher brightness, achieving 10,000 nits compared to the reported 5,000 nits of Sony's display in Vision Pro.
The higher brightness display could help mitigate motion blur in the headset, although the use of pancake lenses has resulted in brightness loss.
Analyst QuickTake: The news follows LG’s partnership with Meta to launch an XR headset in 2025. The headset is likely to be a successor to Meta’s Quest Pro enterprise-focused headset, and will potentially utilize the new micro-OLED displays announced
