Toyota's subsidiary, Hino Trucks, announced that it is the exclusive distributor for Tern, a new zero-emission truck brand, at the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo. Its first model, the "RC8," is a battery-electric Class 8 tractor designed specifically for the US market.
The RC8 is based on Hino's established XL Series 4x2 chassis and incorporates advanced zero-emission technology from Hexagon Purus. It features a US-assembled chassis, Dana's Zero-8 e-Axle, and Panasonic Energy battery cells.
Its notable specifications include a 100% battery-electric system, a short wheelbase for enhanced maneuverability, and dual battery packs providing a high power output and range, with a recharge rate that achieves 80% charge in less than two hours.
The Tern RC8, set for mass production in late 2024, will be sold exclusively through selected dealers in the Tern network. Hino Trucks' infrastructure will provide complete support.
