Beyond Leather Materials, a Danish startup that develops bio-based textiles, has announced it has commenced full-scale production of its bio-based leather, Leap, in Germany. Leap, which stands for "LEftover APples," uses apple pulp waste to prevent it from ending in landfills.
Leap is created using discarded apple pulp from European juice and cider manufacturers. It is designed for small leather items, furniture, home decor, and the automobile sector. The material is available in a variety of colors and textures, and the company claims it offers high-production efficiency and a lower environmental impact.
Analyst QuickTake: The development marks a significant milestone for Beyond Leather Materials, which has been developing its product since 2017. The company is also exploring partnerships to incorporate Leap into new products following its shift from the R&D phase to a fully functional B2B supplier.
