PoLoPo submits application for USDA approval of its SuperAA platform

Regulation/policy

  • Israeli company PoLoPo, specializing in molecular farming, has applied for a Regulatory Status Review (RSR) from the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service for its SuperAA platform.

  • The SuperAA platform is a proprietary system that uses metabolic engineering techniques to turn potatoes into miniature biofactories to create alternative proteins. The proteins are then extracted and dry-processed into a powder compatible with existing food production lines. The final protein powder is classified as non-GMO despite the initial genetic engineering.

  • Analyst QuickTake: The company unveiled the SuperAA platform in March 2024 to develop ovalbumin and patanin for various food tech applications, including plant-based eggs and dairy alternatives. This unveiling followed the company’s USD 1.75 million pre-seed funding round held in March 2023.
